Head Coach -- Phil Marino
Coach Marino came to CHS in 2009 and is in his fifth year coaching the CHS football team. Prior to joining the CHS staff, he was at East Columbus Magnet Academy.
Previous Coaching Experience: Coach Marino began coaching at
Jordan High School in 1982. He moved to Woodland Academy in
1984. Coach Marino became the Director of Athletics at Our Lady
of Mt. Carmel School in 1990 before moving to Hardaway in 1996. In
2000, he moved to East Columbus Magnet Academy, leaving there
in 2009, to take his current position at Columbus High.
Football experience: Coach Marino played football in high school
and was an All-Conference player. He also played baseball well
enough to be both All-Conference and All-State. Coach Marino
pitched in baseball and holds a school record for career no-hitters of
3. He also played baseball when he attended Ball State.
Family: Coach Marino and his wife Jody have four adult
children. Phil and Jody's two sons are named Josh and T.J. Their two
daughters are Jessica and Sarah. Coach Marino also has seven
Hometown: Coach Marino is from Richmond, Indiana. He attended
high school at Richmond Senior High school. Coach Marino graduated
from Ball State University where he received a Bachelor of Science Degree
in Physical Education. Later, Coach Marino attended Troy University
where he completed a Master’s in Sports Fitness and Management.

Wide Receiver Coach – Joe Cherrone
College: ABAC, CSU, Troy University
Previous Coaching Experience: Rothschild Middle School for two years. Coach Cherrone has been with CHS for four years.
Joe Cherrone is from Columbus, GA. He is married to Kala. Coach
Cherrone also has been the Head Basketball Coach for Girls Basketball at
Columbus High School since 2010. The girls’ team has gone to the play-
offs for the last three years. At Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College
(ABAC), Coach Cherrone completed his Associate of Science Degree. He then
attended CSU and received his Bachelor of Education. At Troy
University, he completed a Master’s in Sports Administration. Coach
Cherrone has also now received his Education Leadership Specialist
Degree with a concentration in Physical Education.
Defensive Line Coach – Chris Church
College: Jamestown College, North Dakota
Previous Coaching Experience: Rothschild Middle School, Kendrick High School, and East Columbus Magnet Academy. Coach Church has been a member of the CHS staff since 2009.
Coach Church is from Berwick, PA. He is married to Joan Church. They
have two sons, Garrick and Kelly, and two daughters, Crystal and Kay Lynn.
Two of his children are graduates of Columbus High! During college at Jamestown, Coach Church was recognized for his football abilities by being selected for both All-Conference and All-District honors. Following his own personal college excellence in football, Coach Church continued to deliver from the sidelines. He has received Coach of the Year three times - twice for Women's basketball and once for Men's & Women's track.
Offensive Line Coach -- Bob Peters
College: Auburn University; Masters Troy 2008
Previous Coaching Experience: Marshall Middle School and Double Churches Middle School
Coach Peters is from Montgomery, AL. He graduated from Wetumpka High School, where he was selected for All-Metro, All-County, and Second team All-State Football honors. Bob is married to Michelle Peters and they have two girls, Renee, 14 and Reagan, 5. Their sons are Bryant, 9 and Bobby, 4. Coach Peters coached football and track at Marshall Middle. He coached these two sports and also soccer when he was Athletic Director at Double Churches Middle. He joined the CHS staff in 2010, first working with the Defensive Lineman. In 2012, Coach Peters moved to Offense.
Linebacker Coach -- Winston Alexander Johnson
College: LaGrange College, Columbus State University
Coach Johnson is from Columbus, and he graduated from CHS in 2011. He was a starting football player 3 of his 4 years with CHS, playing DE, OLB, and FB. He was an All-American Running Back in the High School American Bowl. Coach Johnson signed with LaGrange College in 2011. He played varsity Running Back as a freshman and had a 500 yard rushing season. He transferred to Columbus State and is currently a senior, majoring in Criminal Justice. He plays Club football and has been the starting Running Back since 2012. He is a member of the Collegiate 100 at CSU. He is also the president of Spirit Filled Ministries Young Men’s Ministry.
Defensive Back Coach & Defensive Coordinator-- Namu Keys, Sr.
College: Georgia State and Troy University
Previous Coaching Experience: Edgewood Red Devils, Georgia All Stars, Columbus High
Coach Keys is originally from Brooklyn, NY. He and his wife, Pamela Keys, have one son, Namu Kashiem Keys, Jr., who is 21. At Ware County (GA) Senior High School, Namu, Sr. was an All-Region running back. He also was a wrestler in High School and college. Coach Keys joined the Army where he was a member of the 4x100 relay team that still holds the Ft. Sill record! He retired from the Army after 21 years of service and serving in two tours to Iraq. While coaching with Edgewood in the CYFL, Coach Keys came to CHS in 2010. He has been working with the Defensive Line for these past four years.
Statistician - Steve Stinson
College: University of Alabama

Steve is the owner of S & S Company in Columbus. Steve has been working with high school football teams by tracking statistics for twenty years. Prior to working with CHS, Steve was a community coach at Brookstone School for many years. Steve attended Westminster School in Atlanta and graduated from Glenwood. Our players appreciate Coach Stinson's mentoring and leadership from the sidelines and on the bus, as well as his encouragement.
